Monitor

Monitor is an installation created for the 'Clicks or Mortar' event held in the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle. The piece tracks and records the movement of people through the space, displaying real-time location data through an eerie visualisation projected in the bar area.

Using RFID technology embedded in the ID badges of the delegates, sensors relay data back to a central location. Each delegate is represented by an eye within the projection; as the person moves from one location to another, their eye closes and reopens elsewhere within the projection and begins scanning the room in an unsettling manner.

During the wrap up session, the data gathered by Monitor is presented through automatically generated charts, giving the opportunity for Big Brother to shame or praise individual attendees.
