Antitecture

Antitecture is an exhibit created initially for the Invisible Architectures exhibition in Newcastle and later displayed at the RIBA Architecture Open.

Antitecture is an ant colony housed below a 1:500 scale model of a city block constructed from sugar cubes. The cubes are the backbone for the colony, providing food for the insect population. The model demonstrates a fragile built environment as the insects pray upon the building blocks to support their own colony. The activity of the ants is projected at large scale where they can be observed, eroding away their city fabric.
