At nightfall, the piece lights up, reacting to activity within the centre; for example, during pool sessions, blue light ripples over the building with increasing ferocity to match the activity in the water. During the small hours, the building settles down playing calming light animations to guide people through the street beside the centre, illuminating a previously dimly lit area.

Visitors to the centre can also play with the installation by sending text messages to trigger pre-defined lighting sequences. During the World Cup, fans were able to get the building to display their national flag.
